| Serene Lakes and Donner Summit
For those looking for peace and quiet and serenity, this is an area to consider. Located on Donner Summit between Truckee and Colfax, the Serene Lakes area offers solitude and a quiet mountain setting tucked away amongst the trees. With a quaint mountain lake at the center of the community, you are close to some of the best cross country skiing in the Tahoe area at Royal Gorge. Or enjoy downhill skiing at nearby Sugar Bowl, Soda Springs, Donner Ski Ranch or Boreal Ridge.
The Donner Summit area including Pla Vada, Soda Springs, Kingvale and Norden, is not a place for those shy of the snow. Most of these residents are second homeowners with a few full timers who brave out the heavy snowfall each winter. Some homes can only be accessed by skis or snowmobiles during heavy winters. There is access to many trailheads for hiking and mountain biking in the summer.

GETTING THERE: Squaw Valley, off Highway 89 between Truckee and Tahoe City on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, is 196 miles from San Francisco via Interstate 80. Exit onto Highway 89 south in Truckee, go approximately 8 miles to Squaw Valley Road, and turn right.
For the Resort at Squaw Creek; take the first left onto Squaw Creek Road.
For the Village at Squaw Valley; stay on Squaw Valley Road for approximately 2 miles, then turn left onto the bridge that crosses the creek into the parking lot and to the Village.
For the Olympic Village Inn; stay on Squaw Valley Road for approximately 2 1/2 miles, where the road turns left at the Clock Tower angle right off the road and follow the "Hotel Registration" signs.
