The Placer County Board of Supervisors approved funding on August 26th for the first segment of the Martis Valley Trail. Construction started this week on the initial .57 mile section of the 10.4 mile trail that, when completed, will connect Truckee to Northstar Village and to the Fiberboard Freeway near Brockway Summit above Kings Beach. The Fiberboard Freeway is an old 23.5-mile logging road that was paved in 2006 and runs through the mountains connecting Hwy 267 at Brockway Summit to Tahoe City. Completion of the first segment of the Martis Valley Trail is anticipated in October with the second 1.76 mile segment beginning in the spring 2015. Total cost for the trail is estimated at $17 million of which the first $4.5 million has been identified. Future construction of the remaining four segments of the trail is dependent on additional funding. The regional plan would incorporate an existing Class I trail from Tahoe City to Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley.
